P.S. I believe you
Letter Project for
Sexual Assault Survivors
Every survivor deserves to be believed.
In Texas, one in three adults experience sexual violence in their lifetime. Survivors of sexual violence are often either silenced and/or blamed for what happened to them, which commonly prevents them from speaking up. Most sexual assaults go unreported and the majority that are reported are rarely prosecuted. Although there is much to be desired for policy and societal change, survivors of sexual violence deserve to be believed, have access to trauma-informed support, and given the tools to effectively heal, knowing that what was done to them was not their fault.
Women deserve to have their bodies respected, their privacy honored, and their experiences validated. We deserve a trauma-informed system that provides emotional, mental, and physical safety to heal without blame, shame, or being further traumatized. Survivors also deserve unwavering community support in their pursuit of accountability and justice.
P.S. I believe you is a letter writing initiative that provides tangible letters to sexual assault survivors to showcase community support in hopes that they feel empowered as they navigate life post-assault.
Together, we can
Empower every survivor of sexual violence with the knowledge that she is believed, supported, and not alone in her experience through handwritten letters.

Host a Write Night
Things people usually ask before writing.
-
Absolutely not! We invite anyone that feels called to show their support for survivors of sexual violence to participate by writing a letter (or many!) or hosting a Show your Support party.
-
While we believe that every survivor should feel empowered to share their story, letters should focus on supporting the survivor that will receive the letter.
Please be mindful that words can be triggering and this project aims to aid in healing. -
Of course not! Both survivors and supporters are diverse in how they identify and we encourage anyone that wants to show their support to participate.
-
Although there is no set requirement for number of letters and we appreciate any contributions, we recommend at least three to represent the 1 in 3 Texans that experience sexual violence in their lifetime.

Great question! We unfortunately live in a society that often blames survivors for what happened TO them rather than listening and accepting their experience. This project aims to let survivors know that there are many people that stand with them in support.
We are passionate about this specific demographic of people that have experienced sexual violence and choose to focus on empowering them through this initiative. -
We have a big vision for what this project could be. We are starting small by piloting it locally in Fort Worth to provide letters to survivors that choose to get forensic exams in Tarrant County by partnering with volunteer victim advocates through The Women’s Center.
Our goal is to show the success of this pilot program then expand to other rape crisis centers and community organizations here in Texas. Ideally, we envision this becoming a national and global initiative to support survivors everywhere.

Resilient Women Co. will distributed P.S. I Believe You letters to survivors through The Women’s Center, Tarrant County’s rape crisis center. Victim advocates will be able to take letters when they meet a brave survivor for a forensic exam at a Tarrant County hospital.
